How It Happened
LANCASTER, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped its 2019 opener to No. 19 Franklin & Marshall by a 19-6 score on Thursday afternoon. The Dutchmen fell to 0-1, while the Diplomats jumped to 1-1. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but the snowstorm postponed it to this afternoon.
F&M struck early with three goals in the span of less than three minutes to take a quick 3-0 advantage with 8:28 left in the first quarter.
Josh Croyle got one back for LVC off an assist from
Trevor Holak at 7:17, but the Diplomats answered with three more goals to take a 6-1 lead. Croyle netted his second of the game with just three seconds left in the first period from
Max Warmingham, however, and LVC was down by just four at 6-2 after 15 minutes of action.
From there, the home team dominated and all five of the goals in the second period to take an 11-2 lead into the third. F&M took their second-quarter momentum into the third and went on to score the first six goals of the third until Croyle struck again and completed the hat trick with a tally from
Michael Fisher with 6:27 left in the third.
In the fourth, the Dutchmen rattled off three straight, beginning with
Matt Torrence's score, followed by Croyle's fourth of the day and a goal from
Joe Olives off an assist from freshman
Nick Coyne, but the deficit was too large for LVC and the Dutchmen eventually fell 19-6.
Inside the Numbers
- Croyle ended with four goals on five shots. He added a ground ball and caused a turnover.
- Olives had a goal and an assist for LVC.
- Torrence registered a team-high six shots on goal while scooping up four ground balls and causing a pair of turnovers.

Cam Epple made 14 saves between the pipes for the Dutchmen.
- F&M's Scott Hatch made two saves in net to earn the victory.

Courtland Hackel tied for the team lead with four ground balls.

Luke Tamberino, Epple, and
Brendan Kernan recorded two caused turnovers apiece.
- F&M was led offensively by Kevin Molihan who netted seven goals and added an assist.
- The Diplomats' Blake Target and Luke Keating each scored three goals.
- F&M was 17-for-22 on clears and the Dutchmen went 14-for-24.
- The Diplomats picked up 44 total ground balls and LVC scooped up 23.

The Dutchmen host Frostburg State on Wednesday, Feb. 27 in LVC's 2019 home opener at Arnold Field at 4 p.m.
