How It Happened
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – Elmira netted three goals in the first and third periods and took down Lebanon Valley 7-1 on Saturday night in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) men's ice hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen fell to 2-7-1, 1-5-1 UCHC, while the Soaring Eagles improved to 5-3-1, 5-2-0 UCHC.
 
4:31 into the opening period, the home team got on the board when Christian Lloyd found the back of the net from Patrick Schmelzinger. Then, with just 2:03 remaining in the first, the Soaring Eagles scored again to make it 2-0. Then, with 31 ticks left on the clock in the opening stanza, Elmira netted a power-play goal and took a 3-0 advantage into the second period.
 
Nearly midway through the second, with the Soaring Eagles again on the man-advantage, Elmira made it a 4-0 game. Just over two minutes later, the Dutchmen got one back when 
Danny Galvez found the back of the net from 
Justin Hall and 
Ziki Mroz, however the home team still went into the third with a three-goal lead at 4-1. In the third period, Elmira nixed any type of LVC comeback thanks to three more goals and the Soaring Eagles went on to win by a 7-1 score.
 
Inside the Numbers

Danny Galvez finished with one goal on two shots while adding 12 faceoff wins.

Jared Karas recorded a team-high five shots on goal.

Henry Burns suffered the loss despite making 34 saves in 49:13 of action.
 - Elmira's Chris Janzen earned the win between the pipes after stopping 26 shots.

 - Elmira held the slight edge in total faceoff wins at 42-41.
 
Who's Next?
LVC is idle until the new year and returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 8, when the Dutchmen travel to take on Morrisville State College at 7 p.m. to cap their six-game road trip.
