How It Happened
ASHLAND, Va. – In the consolation game of the Randolph-Macon Coaches Tournament, Lebanon Valley's men's basketball team took down Dickinson College 80-68 on Monday afternoon. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 4-7, while the Red Devils dropped to 1-9.
Quickly in the first, Dickinson jumped out to an 8-2 lead with 15:38 left. The Red Devils maintained their advantage for several minutes after, but with the score at 13-6 with 11:41 left, the Dutchmen responded with a 7-3 spurt, capped by a
Zach Tucker trey, bringing LVC to within three at 16-13 with 9:33 remaining in the opening half.
The Dutchmen continued to put the pressure on the Red Devils and eventually, LVC tied things up after
Justin Baker sank a free throw to make it a 21-21 game with 4:46 to go in the first. Baker made his next shot from the charity stripe to give LVC its first lead of the game, then
Collin Jones knocked down a triple at 4:22 to put the Dutchmen up by four. From there, LVC continued to pour it on and went ahead by as many as 10 in what proved to be a significant run. With 30 ticks left in the first,
Mason Green connected on a 3-pointer and the Dutchmen went into the locker room with a comfortable 12-point advantage at 37-25.
Coming out of the halftime break, LVC picked up where it left off in the first and took a commanding 22-point lead after
Jeremy Deihm's layup at 16:16 made it 49-27 in favor of the Dutchmen. Later, with 9:18 remaining in regulation, Dickinson started to creep back into the game and with the score 64-44, a 12-0 run allowed the Red Devils to get to within eight at 64-56 with 6:27 left, but the Dutchmen didn't allow them back in it. A few minutes later, back-to-back makes from the free throw line from KJ Holton brought Dickinson to within seven at 68-61 with 3:53 to go, but Tucker came down to the other end of the floor on the Dutchmen's ensuing possession and knocked down a jumper. From there, LVC never allowed Dickinson to get any closer and went on to win 80-68.
