How It Happened
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – A huge fourth quarter lifted the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team over Penn State Harrisburg, 64-51, in non-conference action on Friday evening. LVC improves to 4-5 with the win while the Lions drop to 3-5.
The Dutchmen outscored PSU 29-13 in the final frame and shot the lights out, shooting 90% from the floor while also hitting all 10 of their free throws to erase a three-point deficit to take down the Lions. LVC trailed by a pair early in the fourth quarter but would go on an 11-0 run, with four different players scoring during the run, to take a six-point advantage with 4:25 left to play. Down the stretch, the Dutchmen would hit all 10 of their foul shots, including six in a row by
Morgan Bamberger, to put away Penn State Harrisburg.
In the first quarter, the Dutchmen jumped on PSU 14-2 as LVC put the clamps on the Lion offense holding them to just 1-17 shooting and 0-14 from beyond-the-arc to grab control of the contest early. The second quarter was tightly contested by LVC did not allow the Lions offense to get going as the Dutchmen carried a 26-13 lead into the intermission after holding PSU to just 4-33 shooting in the first two quarters.
The Lions would not only claw back into the game, but take a lead after three quarters as their offense erupted for 25 points while holding the Dutchmen to just 1-14 from the field and the Dutchmen's 13-point halftime lead was gone and LVC trailed by three points before taking over in the fourth quarter.
Inside the Numbers
- Kennedy Kuffa led the Dutchmen with a career-high 17 points.
- Morgam Bamberger hit 8-of-9 free throws, including six in a row down the stretch to seal the win and finish with 16 points.
- Emily Mealey recorded another double-double with 14 points and a career-high 22 rebounds. Her 22 boards tied the single-game LVC record with Penny Hamilton.
- Amber Kintzer also tallied a career-high mark in rebounds with 10.
- LVC shot a season-best 88% from the free throw line, 22-25.
- PSU Harrisburg was held to just 24.3% shooting from the floor (17-70) ad 17% from deep (8-47).
- The Dutchmen outrebounded LVC 56-41 for the game.
- LVC dominated in the paint as they scored 32 points in the lane.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen return to action next Tuesday as LVC continues their conference slate. The Dutchmen will travel to take on Arcadia University at 8 p.m. at Glenside, Pa.
