How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team were stifled by a tough SUNY Cortland defense and fell 5-0 to the Red Dragons on a Saturday night in Hershey.
The Dutchmen got the first good chance of the evening as the Red Dragons committed a penalty just over two minutes into the contest giving the Dutchmen a man-up opportunity. LVC would only muster one shot in the two minutes. Later in the opening period, LVC was charged with back-to-back penalties. The Dutchmen were able to kill of the first penalty but Cortland would capitalize during the second, and Amanda Gaffney would put Cortland ahead 1-0 at the midway point of the first period. Dany Donegan would add an unassisted tally with just 1:22 remaining in the first to double the lead after one period, 2-0, in favor of Cortland.
In the second period, Gaffney would pick up her second power play score late in the period to put LVC down three goals headed into the final twenty minutes. The Red Dragons added a pair of late insurance goals in the final minutes of the game to officially put away the Dutchmen.
