How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Three Flying Dutchmen were in double figures in points to lead Lebanon Valley to a 78-65 triumph over Elizabethtown on Tuesday night in non-conference men's basketball action. LVC evened its record to 3-3, while the Blue Jays slipped to 2-2.
The Dutchmen jumped out to a quick 13-3 advantage, capped by
Mason Green's 3-pointer from
Zach Tucker that forced the Blue Jays to burn a 30-second timeout with 14:18 remaining in the opening half. Green continued to have the hot hand and later drilled another trey, again from Tucker, giving the home team a 16-8 lead with 13:12 to go. From there, E-Town responded with a 7-1 spurt that spanned just under three minutes, making it an 18-15 LVC lead with 9:31 left in the opening half.
The Dutchmen then saw their somewhat-comfortable lead vanish as the Blue Jays evened the game at 24-24 after Drew Riley's layup with 4:42 left in the first. The remainder of the first half remained back-and-forth, but in the final minute,
Collin Jones forced a turnover and hit a layup with 27 seconds remaining, giving the Dutchmen a five-point gap at 34-29 heading into halftime.
At the 15:15 mark of the second, Bryce Greene's layup brought E-Town to within four at 43-39, but a significant 12-2 spurt by LVC put the Blue Jays away for good, as the Dutchmen opened up a 55-41 lead with 11:06 remaining in the contest. LVC led by as many as 19 and never relinquished its double-digit lead, en route to a 79-65 victory.
