How It Happened
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth netted three goals in the opening period and Lebanon Valley was unable to dig itself out of the hole, resulting in a narrow 3-2 defeat on Saturday afternoon in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. The Dutchmen fell to 2-6-1, 1-4-1 UCHC, while the Golden Flyers improved to 3-3-1, 3-2-0 UCHC.
It didn't take long for Nazareth to light the lamp, as Justin Miller scored just 1:05 into the opening period, giving the home team an early 1-0 advantage. Just over five minutes later, with the Golden Flyers on the power-play, J. Miller scored again from James McDonald and Brian Miller to make it 2-0. Then, at 11:11, Nazareth's Zander Pryor found the back of the net and the Golden Flyers went into the first intermission with a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Dutchmen didn't quit, though, and came to within two when
Justin Hall scored 4:57 into the middle period from
Danny Galvez and
Tino Alunni. In the third, with LVC still down 3-1,
Cole Hepler made it a one-goal game at 7:28 when he scored from
Felix Takacsi-Nagy and
Alex Borowiec. With 47 seconds to go in the third, LVC pulled
Aidan Richardson to bring on the extra attacker, but the Dutchmen weren't able to generate any scoring chances and were eventually edged 3-2.
