How It Happened
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A big run by Delaware Valley put the game out of reach for Lebanon Valley just after the midway point of the second half in a 70-56 defeat on Wednesday night in non-conference men's basketball action. The Flying Dutchmen fell to 2-2, while the Aggies improved to 2-1.
At the 10:55 mark of the second half,
Jeremy Deihm's layup brought the visiting Dutchmen to within five at 52-47. Delaware Valley, however, answered with a significant 18-3 spurt that spanned just over seven minutes, giving the Aggies a 20-point advantage at 70-50 with 3:33 remaining in regulation. LVC was unable to dig itself out of the hole and eventually fell 70-56.
The Dutchmen controlled action early in the game and opened up an 13-3 lead with 11:49 left in the opening half, capped by
Mason Green's 3-pointer. Deihm hit a layup next, followed by
Jaylen Reichner's bucket that made it 17-8 in favor of the Dutchmen with 9:43 to go. LVC continued to hold a solid lead until at 25-15, the Aggies went on a 17-2 run to take a five-point advantage at 32-27 with 50 seconds left in the first. Jordan Abo stopped the bleeding with a trey with 22 seconds to go, but Delaware Valley's Jordan Tucker hit a jumper with five seconds left and the Aggies went into halftime with a narrow 34-30 lead.
In the second half, LVC came out strong as
Luis Garcia knocked down a 3-pointer with 18:47 to go that gave the Dutchmen the lead at 35-34. Garcia followed it up by knocking down a jumper to make it 37-34 on LVC's ensuing possession, but the Aggies retook the lead shortly after and then extended the advantage to 50-44 with 14:25 left. From there until the midway point, LVC stayed in it, but Delaware Valley's big run was eventually the turning point.
