VB Drops a Pair at Vassar Tri-Match

Stevens def. Lebanon Valley 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-12)

How It Happened
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Vassar College tri-match this Saturday afternoon to close out their regular season. LVC will now prepare for the MAC Commonwealth tournament, which begins Monday with a play-in game against Lycoming.
 
Stevens started the match hot and never looked back as they jumped out to an early 14-4 lead following eight straight points. Stevens would then take 11 of the final 15 points to cruise to a 25-8 win in the opening set.
 
In the second set, Stevens won the first five points to take a quick lead over LVC. The Dutchmen would claw their way back into the set as they won six of the next eight points to draw within one point. The rest of the set was full of runs including four straight by LVC to make the score 17-12 in favor of Stevens, before Stevens would then rattle off six in a row to take control of the set and eventually won the set 25-16. The third set saw Stevens jumping out to a quick 4-0 advantage. LVC would eventually fall 25-12 in the final set and 3-0 in the match.
 
Amanda Sides led the Dutchmen offensively with six kills, followed by Reily Shelly who recorded five. Alice Thorsen picked up a pair of service aces. Emily Bartlett led the team with 14 assists. Julia Rill led LVC defensively with eight digs for the game.
 


In the Dutchmen's second match of the afternoon, LVC fell to Vassar College 3-2 (16-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12)

The opening set saw LVC jump out to a quick 8-4 advantage following six unanswered points by the Dutchmen. LVC would never allow Vassar to get within three points as they cruised to a 25-16 win in the first set. The second set was tight throughout before Vassar went on a 12-3 run and led 19-9 over LVC. The Dutchmen trailed 21-10 before exploding for 14 of the next 17 points to take a 24-23 lead and serving for game point. Vassar would recover with three straight points to take the second set 26-24 and even the match at a set apiece.
 
The third set was back-and-forth throughout with neither team able to grab a huge lead. LVC would eventually take the third set 25-22. Vassar would jump ahead quickly in the fourth set winning 10 of the first 12 points. Vassar would lead 23-13 before LVC would win eight straight points to pull within two before Vassar would eventually take the set 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.
 
The fifth set started with Vassar taking five of the first six points to grab an early advantage. LVC would battle back to bring the Dutchmen within two points at 12-10. Vassar would win three of the final five points to take the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
 
Reily Shelly led the Dutchmen offensively with 16 kills followed by Jayna Class who recorded 12 kills along with four service aces. Mikiah Sangrey led the team with three blocks. Emily Bartlett finished with a team-high 33 assists in the win. Julia Rill and Alice Thorsen picked up 23 and 21 digs respectively.
 

Who's Next?
The Dutchmen will begin postseason play in the MAC Commonwealth play-in game against Lycoming. Game time in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. is scheduled for 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to take on top-seeded Stevenson.
