How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team fell 79-41 to the 13th-ranked DeSales University Bulldogs in the championship game of the 2019 Rinso Marquette Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The Dutchmen fall to 1-3 on the young season while DeSales remains unbeaten at 3-0.

The DeSales full court pressure caused problems for the LVC offense early as the Dutchmen were unable to get on the scoreboard for the first five minutes and found themselves down 12-0 midway through the first quarter. The 12-point margin would be the same at the end of the quarter. DeSales put some more room between themselves and the Dutchmen in the second quarter as LVC was outscored 25-10 in the frame.

The third quarter would be controlled by DeSales as well, as the Bulldogs picked up 23 points in the period. The Dutchmen would outscore the Bulldogs 13-12 in the final 10 minutes of action but would fall in the championship game to the nationally-ranked DeSales squad.

For the Dutchmen, Emily Mealey and Kennedy Kuffa were named to the All-Tournament team. Rounding out the All-Tournament team was Molly Jansco of DeSales, Rachel Robinson of Mount Aloysius, and Kaylee Otlowski from Salisbury. DeSales' Rylee Rittenhouse was named tournament MVP.

Inside the Numbers
  • Emily Mealey continued her solid play as she has four straight double-doubles to open up the season. Mealey finished with a game-high 18 points to go with 10 rebounds.
  • DeSales had balanced scoring with four players recording double-digit points.
  • The Bulldog defense forced LVC into 26 turnovers on the day.
  • The Dutchmen were outrebounded 46-30 on the day, resulting in 17 second chance points for DeSales.

Who's Next?
The Dutchmen return to action this Wednesday night when LVC plays host to Marywood University. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Sorrentino Gymnasium.
