How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley took down Mt. Aloysius in the 2019 Rinso Marquette Men's Basketball Tournament Championship game on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 2-1, while the Mounties dropped to 2-2.
It was a defensive struggle throughout the game as LVC led just 4-3 with 12:13 to go in the first half. From there, the Dutchmen went on a 7-0 run, capped by
Collin Jones' layup, giving the home team an 11-3 advantage with 9:26 left. Mt. Aloysius responded with an 11-4 spurt and came to within one of LVC at 15-14 with 2:51 left in the opening half. After the Mounties made it a one-point game, the Dutchmen ended the half on a 6-0 run, including a trey by
Trevor Covey, and went into the halftime break with a 21-14 lead.
The visitors made things interesting early in the second when they came to within three at 23-20 with 16:49 left. Quickly, the Dutchmen's double-digit lead returned thanks to a 14-4 run that was capped off by
Luis Garcia's 3-pointer. LVC continued to lead by double-digits until a Trent McErlane made it a nine-point game with 2:56 to go, but that's the closest the Mounties would get, as LVC shut the door and held on for the comfy 60-46 win.
