How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley held off a late Manhattanville charge and edged the Valiants 3-2 to pick up its first UCHC win of the season on Friday night inside Hersheypark Arena. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 2-4-0, 1-2-0 UCHC, while Manhattanville dropped to 1-3-1, 0-3-0 UCHC.

Just past the halfway point of the second period, Cole Hepler ripped wrist shot from the point with LVC on the power play and scored from Ziki Mroz and Jared Karas, giving the Dutchmen a comfortable 3-0 lead. The Valiants, however, didn't go away and with 4:05 to go, Ken McLean's shot from the point got through a screen and went into the back of the net while Manhattanville was on the power play, cutting the Dutchmen's lead to 3-1.

Then, with 4:30 to go in the game, the Valiants' Mac Vail was pulled, giving the visitors an extra attacker. Manhattanville got a few shots off, but Aidan Richardson, who was making his first collegiate start in net, stopped each shot he faced. Cole Hepler was then called off for a penalty and the Valiants had a two-man advantage. 12 seconds after LVC killed the penalty, Joel Knight scored to bring the visitors to within one at 3-2 with 41 seconds left. From there, the Dutchmen were able to hold off Manhattanville and escape with a 3-2 victory.

Early on, Karas gave LVC a lead when he found the back of the net from Matt Emerick and Mroz. Then, less than a minute later, Brad Viola escaped the defense and ripped a shot top-shelf off an assist from Zak Sheikh, making it 2-0 Dutchmen. Later in the game, Richardson kept LVC up 3-0 after making a huge save on Alex Rowella. To view Viola's goal and Richardson's save, check out the video below.
