Big First Half Downs Dutchmen

How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – A big first half by Elizabethtown was enough to down the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team, 54-46, on Wednesday evening. The Dutchmen drop to 0-2 on the young season while the Blue Jays improve to 2-0.

The Blue Jays came out of the gate firing on all cylinders as they opened up a 9-0 advantage in the opening quarter before a Morgan Bamberger triple after 4:43 of play would get LVC on the board. Elizabethtown would continue to click offensively in the quarter and doubled up the Dutchmen 18-9 after one period.

The Dutchmen struggled to get anything to go on the offensive end in the second quarter while E-town would continue have success on their offensive end and would take a 34-20 advantage into the halftime break.

LVC would claw back into the game in the third quarter as they finished the quarter on a 12-4 run and a Kennedy Kuffa lay in would bring LVC within 10 headed into the fourth. Jaime Youngkin and Daelyn Stabler each tallied five points in the third quarter to help get LVC within striking distance.

The Dutchmen continued their run early in the fourth as LVC scored the first seven points of the quarter and pulled within one possession at 44-41. This was the closest the Dutchmen had been since it was a four-point game at 9-5 midway through the first quarter. The Jays would pick up six quick, unanswered points after a timeout and would not allow LVC to get close again as the Dutchmen fell 54-46.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Emily Mealey recorded her second double-double in as many games as she finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Mealey, along with Kennedy Kuffa and Jaime Youngkin, all led the Dutchmen with 11 points apiece.
  • LVC committed 23 turnovers compared to just nine by Elizabethtown.
  • Both teams struggled from the free throw line as LVC went 9-20 while E-town went just 6-15.

 
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are back in action this weekend as LVC hosts their annual Rinso Marquette Tournament. The Dutchmen will take on Mount Aloysius on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. followed by a matchup between DeSales and Salisbury in the other semifinal at 7 p.m. The men's tournament will take place Friday evening with games at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
