How It Happened
READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley volleyball team made quick work of Albright College on Wednesday night as the Dutchmen swept the Lions in Reading. LVC is back over .500 for the season as their record improves to 11-10, 2-2 while the Lions fall to 7-8, 0-5 on the year.
In the first set, Albright led midway through the set 12-10 before the Dutchmen would catch fire ending the opening set on a 15-2 run, including the last seven points, to take the first set easily 25-14. The second set was close early on with the Dutchmen leading 9-8 before they opened up another huge run on the Lions. LVC would win eight consecutive points, which included a pair of service aces by
Julia Rill, to take control of the set and open up a 17-8 advantage. LVC would cruise to a 25-16 set win and led two sets to none quickly over the Lions.
The third set was the closest of the match with Albright coming out swinging and winning the first four points of the set. The Lions would lead 12-8 later in the set but the Dutchmen would pick up four quick points in a row to bring the score tied 12-12. The score was even at 15 apiece before the Dutchmen once again finished strong with a 10-6 run, punctuated by a
Grace Powell kill to win the set and complete the sweep for LVC over Albright.
Reily Shelly led the Dutchmen with 11 kills followed by
Jayna Class who recorded 10 kills and
Amanda Sides who picked up six. Rill recorded four aces on the evening and Class and
Carli Sholl each tallied a pair of aces.
Emily Bartlett led the team with 32 assists.
Alice Thorsen led the Dutchmen defensively with 25 digs.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen return home for another MAC Commonwealth matchup next Tuesday as LVC plays host to Hood College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Sorrentino Gymnasium.
