How It Happened
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Lebanon Valley men's soccer team went on the road for the first time in the conference portion of their schedule and dropped a hard-fought 2-1 match to Stevenson University in double overtime. LVC falls to 4-6-2, 0-1-1 on the season while the Mustangs improve to 9-2-2, 2-0-0.
The Dutchmen would get on the board early as they found the back of the net in the 18th minute of regulation.
Rob Hanosek found the foot of
Kazuya Hirano who would beat the Stevenson goalkeeper and put the Dutchmen up 1-0 early in the contest. Although the Mustang offense would fire off 13 shots in the first half but came up empty every time and LVC took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Stevenson continued to dominate in the shots taken category and eventually found pay dirt at the 59:07 mark of the second half when Alex Morales would score the equalizer for the Mustangs. The score would remain knotted up 1-1 for the remainder of regulation and the Dutchmen would head to their third consecutive overtime game.
In the first overtime, both teams created dangerous opportunities on offense, the most dangerous coming off the left foot of Hirano who took a shot from about 25 yards out but missed just high as the ball caromed off the cross bar and the game would move to the second period of extra time. With just 1:05 left to play in the game, the Mustangs would launch a throw-in towards the box and the ball would be battled for by multiple players on either side but the ball would eventually land at the foot of Jay Smith who would capitalize on the opportunity and put the ball in the back of the net to down the Dutchmen 2-1.
