How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Dutchmen scored a season-high five goals in a 5-2 victory over Hood College on Homecoming Weekend at Herbert Field. LVC scored three goals in the final 8:40 of regulation en route to their first conference win on the season. LVC improved to 5-6-2, 1-1-1 on the season while the Blazers drop to 9-3-2, 0-2.
The Dutchmen found themselves in an early hole when, just before the 10-minute mark of the first half, Clay Smith found some daylight in the defensive-third of the Dutchmen and beat a pair of defenders before finishing his run with a shot into the left corner of the net to put Hood up 1-0. Less than five minutes later, LVC would answer when
Peter Foerster received a through ball from
Rob Hanosek and would score a sharp-angled goal that ricocheted off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net to tie the score, 1-1.
Later in the first half, the Dutchmen would work their way up the field and
Kurtis Rineer would deliver a beautiful service into the box from the right wing where
Noah Resuta was there to volley the ball out of the air and into the net to give LVC their first lead of the game. The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the Dutchmen as the game went into halftime.
In the 64th minute, Smith received a pass up the left side of the field from Brandon Feuerherd and Smith would make a nice dribble move and place the ball just inside the right post to tie the game at two. Just over five minutes later, Hood would be penalized with a red card and forced to play down a man for the remaining 22:17 of regulation.
The Dutchmen would eventually capitalize on their man-advantage in the final 8:40 of regulation. LVC scored the first of their three late goals at the 81:20 mark.
Kurtis Rineer played a corner into the box that found the head of
Caleb Cekella and then the back of the goal to put the Dutchmen ahead for good.
Lucas Strange and
Zach Reed would score insurance goals in the 86th and 89th minutes, both off assists from
Anderson Velozwong, to put away the Blazers and give LVC their first conference victory, 5-2.
