Cabrini def. Lebanon Valley 3-0 (26-24, 27-25, 25-16)
How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Dutchmen dropped a pair of matches today in the first of two tri-matches LVC will host this month. LVC fell to 10-10 on the year after dropping matches to Cabrini University and Bethany College.
The Dutchmen took on Cabrini to start the day and played them closely throughout just were unable to close out any sets as they fell 3-0. The first set was filled with runs by both teams and the Dutchmen led late 24-22 before the Cavaliers would win four consecutive points with their back against the wall to take the opening set.
In the second set, Cabrini jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before a kill by
Jayna Class would momentarily stop the bleeding. LVC would trail for a majority of the set but eventually battled back to tie the set at 17-17. The two teams would continue to trade blows and as the score remained tied 25-25, it was Cabrini again winning the final two points to take the second set 27-25. The third set was all Cavaliers as they led wire-to-wire and took the set 25-16 and all three sets to win the match.
Jayna Class led the Dutchmen with 10 kills followed by
Reily Shelly with nine and
Mikiah Sangrey with eight kills. Shelly,
Alice Thorsen, and
Emily Bartlett all had a pair of service aces in the match.
Emily Bartlett led the way with 34 assists. Shelly, and
Carli Sholl led the team with 11 digs with Bartlett right behind with 10.
In the Dutchmen's second match of the day, LVC fell to Bethany College in straight sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-18).
The first set against the Bison was tightly contested throughout as the entire set was played within five points. Bethany led late 24-21 but the Dutchmen would not go down easy winning a pair of points to keep the set going at 24-23, but the late rally would come up short and Bethany would take the opening set 25-23.
In the second set, LVC jumped out to a 13-9 lead early but the Bison would battle back to tie the set up 17-17. At that point, the Bison would finish the set on an 8-2 run to take the second set 25-19 and a commanding two-set advantage. The third set was close halfway through the set with the Bison sporting a narrow 14-12 lead before going on an 11-6 run to close the set 25-18 and the match in straight sets.
Shelly led the Dutchmen on offense with 15 kills followed by Class who recorded 12 kills. Class also led the squad with three service aces. Bartlett again led the Dutchmen in assists with 27.
Julia Rill recorded 14 digs for a team-high followed by Thorsen who posted 12 digs for the match.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen will continue their conference schedule next time out when they travel to take on the Lions of Albright College on Wednesday evening. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Reading, Pa.
