How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Lucas Strange's equalizer with 18 seconds left in regulation helped the Lebanon Valley men's soccer team salvage a draw with Arcadia in the conference-opener for both sides by a 2-2 mark. Lebanon Valley is now 4-5-2, 0-0-1 on the year while Arcadia's record is now 5-6-1, 0-0-1.
The first half was a physical first 45 minutes of play with both teams creating dangerous and promising offensive chances but unable to find the back of the net. The Dutchmen fired off six shots and Arcadia took five shots in the first half as both teams would remain scoreless into intermission.
The Dutchmen would come out of halftime and get themselves on the scoreboard in the 49th minute to take the first lead of the match.
Peter Foerster went streaking up the right wing and a shot the caromed off the goaltender would find the head of
Anderson Velozwong who would capitalize on the open net to give LVC the 1-0 lead. The Knights would answer in the 65th minute taking advantage of a corner kick. Arcadia's Bryan Reyes would play in an out-swinging corner kick which found the head of Duncan O'Connor who flicked the ball back into the left corner to tie the game up 1-1.
It was Arcadia again finding the back of the net, this time at the 72:32 mark of the second half. Daniel Tittelmayer drove up the right side of the pitch and fed a chipped pass through the Dutchmen defense to Kenneth Marshman who would place the ball into the left corner of the goal to give the Knights their first lead of the contest. The Dutchmen would come storming back as they put a ton of pressure on the Arcadia defense in the final ten minutes of action. All the offensive pressure would come to fruition when
Noah Campomizzi played a beautiful ball into the box that found a cutting
Lucas Strange who headed the ball in to the right corner of the net with just 18 seconds left in regulation to force the game into extra time.
In the two overtime periods, both teams would manage three shots in the 20 minutes of extra time. Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in extra time as a pair of exhausted squads played to a draw in each team's first conference contest of the season.
