How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Cecile Kat scored midway through the first overtime to give Lebanon Valley its fourth consecutive win on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Field Hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen soared to 6-5, 2-0 MACC, while the Golden Wolves fell to 6-6, 0-2 MACC.
Midway through the first overtime, LVC generated a penalty corner to set themselves up nicely for an attempt to end the game.
Faith Dinger took the corner and it resulted in a Kat shot that was saved by Alvernia's Emma Beamesderfer, but after a few seconds, the ball squirted back out to Kat, who was at the top of the circle, and the junior rocketed that went past Beamesderfer this time and into the back of the net to give the home team a thrilling 2-1 victory in overtime. Check out the video below to see Kat's golden goal.
Amazingly, the first two goals of today's game were scored within the first 1:48 of action, and neither team scored from them until Kat's game-winner in the extra period. 59 seconds into this afternoon's contest, the Golden Wolves' Morgan Mondschein found the back of the net off an assist from Felicia Getz to give the visitors an early cushion.
Just 49 seconds later, the Dutchmen came up with the equalizer when Kat netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season to even the game up at 1-1. From there until OT, each team had some chances, but both defenses performed well and the game stayed tied at 1-1 until Kat's OT dagger.
