How It Happened
GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley volleyball team fell 3-0 in their final regular season conference match of the season to the hands of Messiah College on Thursday evening. LVC had already clinched a playoff spot in the conference tournament and are the fifth seed. The Dutchmen will take on Lycoming College in the play-in game next Monday in Williamsport, Pa.

The first set was close throughout with LVC holding a 13-11 lead at the midway point of the set. The Falcons would respond with four unanswered points to take the lead 15-13. Messiah later led 17-16 before taking six of the next eight points to grab a 23-18 lead and control of the set. LVC would battle back but could not overcome the five-point deficit as Messiah took the opening set 25-22.

The second set was filled with Messiah runs as the Falcons led 7-6 early in the set before winning 10 of the next 13 points to extend their advantage to eight points at 17-9. The Falcons would hold that lead, downing LVC in the second set 25-18. The third set was wire-to-wire for Messiah with the Falcons jumping out to a 7-1 lead out the gate and never looking back to take the final set 25-13 over the Dutchmen.

Amanda Sides and Reily Shelly led the way offensively for the Dutchmen as each picked up seven kills. Emily Bartlett led the Dutchmen with 19 assists while also recording a team-high 13 digs. Alice Thorsen tallied a pair of service aces on the evening.
