VB Drops Five-Setter to Lycoming

How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five-set match to the hands of Lycoming College on Tuesday night. Prior to the game, the Dutchmen their lone senior, Amanda Sides, on Senior Day at Sorrentino Gymnasium.
 
The first set was back and forth with the Dutchmen taking hold of the set late. After the set was tied at 16, the Dutchmen would rattle off five straight points to push the score to 21-16. Lycoming would battle back to cut the LVC lead to just one at 23-22, but the Dutchmen would finish off the set by winning the next two points to take the first set. The second set was similar to the first one with both teams staying close throughout the set. LVC led 20-18 late in the set before the Warriors would win seven of the final nine points to take the second set and tie the score 1-1 overall.
 
Set number three was full of runs by both sides with the Dutchmen eventually grab a 16-14 advantage. The Warriors would then catch fire as they took 11 of the final 15 points and led two sets to one. The fourth set was dominated by the Dutchmen as they led throughout and after leading 14-11 midway through the set, LVC would win 11 of the last 13 points in the set and would send the match to a decisive fifth set.
 
In the final set, both teams would trade blows and LVC held a 6-5 lead. Lycoming would win six straight points to take control of the set, now leading 11-6. The Warriors would eventually take the final set 15-10 to win the match in five sets.
 
Jayna Class set a career-high offensively with 22 kills for the Dutchmen. Reily Shelly and Amanda Sides each recorded 15 and 11 kills respectively. Shelly also added three service aces. Emily Bartlett recorded over 50 assists for the second time this season as she finished with 53, one shy of her career-best. Kaitlyn Reed led LVC defensively with 18 digs and Alice Thorsen recorded 15 digs.
 

Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are on the road their next time out as they wrap up the conference regular season portion of their schedule with a matchup against Messiah College on Thursday. Game time in Grantham, Pa. is slated for 7 p.m.
