How It Happened
GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's soccer team were stifled by a stiff Messiah defense as the Dutchmen fell 1-0 to No. 18 Messiah on Saturday evening. LVC falls to 6-7-2, 2-2-1, while the Falcons imrpve to 11-2-2, 5-0 on the season.
The first half was played in the Dutchmen defensive third for a majority of the time with the Falcons outshooting LVC 13-1 in the first 45 minutes. The Dutchmen defense had a bend-but-don't-break performance in the first half along with
Sean Quirk making three saves as the game went into halftime tied, 0-0.
The second half was more of the same as Messiah had control of the possession battle and again outshot the Dutchmen 12-4 in the half. In the 61st minute, the Falcons had one of their shots find the back of the net when Joseph King fed Trevor Goodling on the right side of the box and he would blast the ball inside the near post to put Messiah up 1-0 with just under 30 minutes to play. The Dutchmen were able to generate a few opportunities late with some free kicks and corners but were held off the scoreboard as LVC dropped the match, 1-0.
