How It Happened
GLENSIDE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley held off a late charge from Arcadia and escaped Glenside with a narrow 70-68 win over the Knights on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth women's basketball action. The Dutchmen jumped to 8-7, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth, while Arcadia dropped to 6-9, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth.

With 12 seconds left to go in regulation, the home team called a timeout down by three at 70-67. The Knights had a chance on their final possession to send things into overtime. With one second remaining, Julia Makowski lifted a 3-pointer, but was fouled in the process, resulting in three free throws with 0.4 seconds left. Makowski made the first shot, but missed the second one. She then intentionally missed the final free throw, but the clock ran out on Arcadia, resulting in LVC's big conference victory on the road.

The Knights stormed out of the gate in the early going, jumping out to a 9-4 lead with 5:15 to go in the first quarter. The Dutchmen, however, fought back and answered with a 7-2 run, capped by Jen Eck's jumper, to even the game at 11-11 with 2:52 left in the opening period. Each team traded buckets in the final 2:52 and the game was even at 13-13 after one quarter of action.

The first five minutes of the second quarter remained close until a key run by LVC. Up 21-19, the Dutchmen scored 10 consecutive points to increase their advantage to 31-19. The Knights then cut it to six with a quick 6-0 run, but LVC was able to up its advantage back to nine with 18 seconds to go thanks to Caroline Scarff's layup and the visitors went into halftime with a 37-28 lead.

In the third quarter, the Dutchmen continued to maintain a comfortable lead, and with LVC ahead 47-38 with 5:04 left, Morgan Bamberger knocked down a 3-pointer to give her team a large 50-38 lead. However, the Knights then responded with a 15-4 run and came to within one of LVC at 54-53 with 52 seconds left in the third. Eck hit a free throw on LVC's ensuing possession, and later with one second left, Bamberger hit another trey to give the Dutchmen a 58-53 advantage after three quarters of action.

With 3:20 remaining in the fourth, Arcadia again got close to LVC when Taylor Dunn hit a layup to make it 63-62, but Eck hit a pair of shots from the charity stripe, as did Emily Mealey, to allow the Dutchmen to go up by four at 66-62 with 2:21 left. In the final minutes, the Knights made things interesting, but LVC never lost its lead and escaped with the 70-68 win.
