How It Happened
CHESTER, Pa. – Widener University used a big second quarter to pull away from Lebanon Valley and defeat the Dutchmen 73-51 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action. The Dutchmen slipped to 7-7, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth, while the Pride improved to 13-2, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth.
The action was close in the early going as the two squads were locked at 12-12 with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter. Throughout the final minutes of the period, though, Widener went on a 6-2 spurt, capped by Devan Rimmer's jumper, to take an 18-14 advantage into the second quarter.
The second quarter is where the home team pulled away, due to its 11-0 run throughout the first 3:43 of action.
Anne Lehr stopped the run with a jumper at 6:24, but LVC still found themselves down by double digits at 29-16. After the Pride got up by 18 at 39-21 thanks to Emma Gardy's triple at 3:43,
Jen Eck and
Caroline Scarff connected on back-to-back jumpers to trim Widener's advantage to 39-25 heading into halftime.
With 4:59 left in the third, the Dutchmen hung around and Lehr's free throw cut the Pride's lead to 45-34. LVC, however, was unable to get any closer throughout the remainder of the period, and Widener went into fourth-quarter action up 55-40. In the fourth, the home squad's lead proved to be too much and the Dutchmen couldn't come out of the hole and eventually fell 73-51.
Inside the Numbers
- Lehr finished with a team-high 11 points and she added three assists and two steals.
- Eck provided nine points off the bench for LVC and was second on the squad with seven boards.

Emily Mealey and Morgan Bamerger netted eight points apiece, while Mealey brought down a team-high nine rebounds.

Megan Bisco scored five points off the bench for the Dutchmen.
- Widener was paced offensively by Rimmer, who poured in 17 points.
- The Pride's Erin Phelan (14), Mackenzie McCracken (13), and Kyra Schenk (10) each hit double digits in points.
- Widener led in field goal percentage at 46.2-percent to 33.3-percent.
- The Pride went 9-of-10 as a team from the charity stripe.
- The home team led slightly in bench points at 21-19.
- Widener also held the edge in points in the paint at 50-26.
