How It Happened
CHESTER, Pa. – Widener University used a big second quarter to pull away from Lebanon Valley and defeat the Dutchmen 73-51 on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action. The Dutchmen slipped to 7-7, 3-2 MAC Commonwealth, while the Pride improved to 13-2, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth.

The action was close in the early going as the two squads were locked at 12-12 with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter. Throughout the final minutes of the period, though, Widener went on a 6-2 spurt, capped by Devan Rimmer's jumper, to take an 18-14 advantage into the second quarter.

The second quarter is where the home team pulled away, due to its 11-0 run throughout the first 3:43 of action. Anne Lehr stopped the run with a jumper at 6:24, but LVC still found themselves down by double digits at 29-16. After the Pride got up by 18 at 39-21 thanks to Emma Gardy's triple at 3:43, Jen Eck and Caroline Scarff connected on back-to-back jumpers to trim Widener's advantage to 39-25 heading into halftime.

With 4:59 left in the third, the Dutchmen hung around and Lehr's free throw cut the Pride's lead to 45-34. LVC, however, was unable to get any closer throughout the remainder of the period, and Widener went into fourth-quarter action up 55-40. In the fourth, the home squad's lead proved to be too much and the Dutchmen couldn't come out of the hole and eventually fell 73-51.
