How It Happened
CHESTER, Pa. –
Jeremy Deihm netted a career-high in points to lead Lebanon Valley to a much-needed 77-71 victory over Widener on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action. The Dutchmen improved to 5-9, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth, while the Pride dropped to 7-6, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth.
Up by six at 80-64 with 1:50 remaining in the game after
Justin Baker's contest, LVC was clinging to its close lead. Widener's Jalen Howard netted a layup with 1:13 to go, but Deihm scored via a dunk with a minute to go to put the away team back up by six at 72-66. Down the stretch,
Trevor Covey made a layup with 42 seconds left, then
Justin Baker made one-of-two free throws with 20 ticks to go, putting the Dutchmen up 76-68. Connor Laverty knocked down a trey with 20 seconds remaining to bring the Pride to within five at 76-71, but
Zach Tucker hit a free throw and the clock ran out on Widener and LVC picked up the huge 77-71 victory.
The home team jumped out to a quick 11-4 advantage with 13:27 left in the first. Tucker answered with a triple, but Widener's Pat Holden hit a 3-pointer on the Pride's ensuing possession to go back up by seven at 14-7 with 12:35 left in the opening half. A significant run ensued for the Dutchmen, as they went on a 20-8 run that spanned over six minutes of action to overtake Widener at 27-26. LVC continued to pour it on a Tucker later dropped a trey with 1:23 to go in the first to make it a 35-28 lead, but the Pride answered with a 6-0 spurt to come to within one of LVC at 35-34 heading into halftime.
In the early going of the second half, the Dutchmen went ahead by eight after Deihm's layup put the Dutchmen ahead 44-36 with 16:06 left. Quickly, Widener cut LVC's lead to two at 44-42 with 14:30 left, but
AJ Catanzaro hit a three to stop the run and put the Dutchmen up 47-42. Throughout the majority of the rest of action, LVC was able to stay ahead of the Pride and despite and a late charge, the Dutchmen came out on top and took it 77-71.
Inside the Numbers
- Deihm ended with a career-high 26 points on 13-of-17 shooting. He added eight rebounds.
- Tucker finished with 17 points, five assists, and four rebounds.

Justin Baker chipped in 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds and six assists.
- For Widener, Laverty led with 15 points.
- A.J. Sawyers (13) and Elijah Boyd (11) were in double digits in points.
