How It Happened
CARLISLE, Pa. – In its first game of the new year, Lebanon Valley's men's basketball team suffered an 84-66 defeat at the hands of Dickinson on Wednesday evening in non-conference action. The Flying Dutchmen slipped to 4-9, while the Red Devils improved to 5-7.
The home team hopped out to an early 8-2 lead just two and a half minutes into action, but
Jeremy Deihm netted a layup on LVC's ensuing possession to make it a four-point game until Dickinson's Mike Hinckley hit a 3-pointer at 16:30, putting the Red Devils up 11-4. Over the next three and a half minutes of play, the Dutchmen put together a 10-2 run, capped by a pair of free throws from
Derreck Orr Jr., to overtake Dickinson at 14-13 with 12:06 left in the first half. Then, after the home squad missed a jumper, Orr Jr. came down the court and knocked down a trey to increase LVC's advantage to 17-13. The Red Devils, however, answered with a 13-0 run to take a nine-point lead at 26-17 with 5:57 remaining. Dickinson went up by as many as 14 points, but with 1:25 to go,
Mason Green made a pair of free throws to cut it to nine, but Dickinson hit a layup in the final seconds to go back up by double digits at 37-26 heading into halftime.
At the 15:46 mark of the second half, Deihm's made bucket from the charity cut the Red Devils' advantage back to single digits at 44-35, and the Dutchmen continued to hang around as
Justin Baker later kept LVC within striking distance after a pair of made free throws with 14:19 left to make it 48-39, but that was a close as the Dutchmen would get, as Dickinson proved to be too much down the stretch and eventually went on to win by an 84-66 margin.
