How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – After leading 5-1 in the third period, Lebanon Valley allowed five goals in a 12-minute span and was edged by Wilkes 6-5 on Wednesday night in UCHC and MAC men's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen fell to 6-7-2, 4-3-2 UCHC, 2-1-1 MAC, while the Colonels improved to 11-4, 7-2 UCHC, 4-0 MAC.
LVC got on the board first when
Bryan Hovanec found the back of the net midway through the opening period off assists from
Travis Acker and
Alex Borowiec, which was the only tally of the opening period as the Dutchmen went into the second up 1-0.
In the second, 4:03 into the period,
Cole Hepler netted the first of three consecutive power-play goals for LVC from
Brett Johnson and
Tyler Romel. Five minutes later, Acker scored from Hepler and
Tyler Perhac, and Acker netted another PP-goal five minutes after, from
Zach Balodis and
Brad Nolan, to put the Dutchmen ahead 4-0 after two periods of action.
22 seconds into the third period, Wilkes' Nick Fea cut into LVC's large lead with a goal to make it 4-1, but a few minutes later, Hepler added his second of the game from
Mike Straub and Johnson to give the Dutchmen their four-goal advantage back at 5-1. Unfortunately, it was all Colonels from there, and Brendan Logan netted back-to-back goals at 3:51 and 7:07 to bring the visitors to within two, then 1:28 later, Tyler Barrow scored an unassisted goal. Dylan Kuipers tied the contest at 5-5 with a score at 12:14, then Tyson Araujo put Wilkes up for good with a goal at 15:52. Perhac was pulled late for the extra skater, but LVC was unable to tie it up and eventually fell 6-5.
Inside the Numbers
- Hepler netted a pair of goals and added an assist for the three-point night. He added five shots a team-high five shots on goal for the Dutchmen.
- Acker added a pair of goals and an assist to reach three points as well.
- Johnson added two assists and recorded three shots on goal.
- Perhac made 28 saves between the pipes, including 13 in the first period.
- 10 different Dutchmen registered at least one point this evening.
- LVC led in total faceoff wins at 35-28.

TJ Sneath won a team-high 15 faceoffs, while Hepler earned nine wins.
- Wilkes' Logan ended with two goals and an assist, while Barrow had a goal and three helpers.
