How It Happened
SCRANTON, Pa. – After Marywood scored in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead over Lebanon Valley, the Dutchmen scored four unanswered goals and earned a 4-1 victory over the Pacers on Wednesday night, Sept. 5. LVC remained undefeated and moved to 2-0-1 on the season, while Marywood dropped to 0-2.
Kassandra Riemer netted her second goal of the season after taking advantage of a loose ball in front of net in the 10th minute to give the Pacers the early 1-0 lead. From there, the Dutchmen evened the score when Marywood allowed an own goal after
Lea Dungan's direct kick deflected off a Pacers' defender to make it a 1-1 match in the 20th minute.
Later in the first half, in the 29th minute,
Katie Goldsmith netted her first goal of the season after
Angela Strock through-ball at midfield led to Goldsmith's breakaway. The assist was Strock's second of the season, and the goal put the Dutchmen 2-1 heading into the second half.
LVC put the game out of reach in the 80th minute when Goldsmith found the back of the net for the second time, this time from
Cheyenne Scott, who sent the ball past defenders, allowing Goldsmith to score. Then, in the 83rd minute,
Maya Cohen added one for good measure, the second of her career, after heading in
Bridgett Finn's corner kick to make it a 4-1 game.
