How It Happened
Lebanon Valley to cruised to a 5-1 victory over Widener in each team's MAC Commonwealth opener on Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field. The Dutchmen improved to 5-3-1, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth, while the Pride fell to 5-4-1, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth.
LVC got things started in the 16th minute when a long pass down the left side came to
Rob Hanosek's feet, and the junior delivered a pass into the box to
Jake Kline, and the Kline blasted it past Widener's John Warwick to give the Dutchmen an early lead. The Pride, however, responded just a minute and 27 seconds later when Nick LeFevre received a header pass from Logan Musselman and after a scrum in the middle, LeFevre scored to knot the game at 1-1.
Then, shortly into the 24th minute, the Dutchmen went up for good when
Noah Campomizzi sent a pass into the middle and Hanosek found the back of the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season to put LVC ahead 2-1. The Dutchmen's one-goal advantage held up heading into halftime.
In the second half, during the 56th minute, LVC built on its lead when
Kurtis Rineer netted his marker of the season when he scored off a free kick from approximately 20 yards out to put the Dutchmen up 3-1. 42 seconds later, the rout was officially on when
Ivan Jorel scored his fourth of the season after he and Hanosek created a two-on-one in Widener's zone. Then, in the 84th minute,
Noah Resuta added his first goal of the season for good measure after
Caleb Cekella sent a pass to Resuta.
