How It Happened
READING, Pa. –
Kurtis Rineer scored off a free kick in double overtime to give Lebanon Valley's men's soccer team a thrilling 3-2 victory over Alvernia on Wednesday night in conference action. The Dutchmen improved to 6-3-1, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth, while the Golden Wolves dropped to 4-7-2, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth.
After neither team could score in the first overtime, LVC drew a foul just over a minute into the second overtime, and 30 seconds later, Rineer took a direct kick from 22 yards and scored into the top left corner of the goal to give the Dutchmen a key conference win.
The match remained scoreless in the first half, but just a minute and 22 seconds into the second half, Rineer netted his first of the day and second of the year when he found the back of the net off a free kick again, and the shot went upper-90 into the back of the net, similar to his marker in double overtime. Alvernia, however, answered in the 56th minute when Ryan Kuster scored to tie the game at 1-1.
Not long after, in the 58th minute,
Rob Hanosek continued his torrid season when he redirected
Kazuya Hirano's pass into the bottom left hand corner of the net to put LVC up 2-1. Again though, the Golden Wolves had the answer when Noah Wright scored his first of the season in the 84th minute to send the game into overtime.
Inside the Numbers
- All three of Rineer's goals this season have come on free kicks.

- Hirano had two shots on goal, while

- The Golden Wolves held the slight edge in total shots at 22-19, but shots on goal were even at 9-9.
- Alvernia also led in corner kicks at 6-4.
- The Dutchmen are 2-0 to start conference action for the first time since 2016 when they started out 5-0 in MAC Commonwealth action.
