How It Happened
FROSTBURG, Md. – Lebanon Valley defeated Neumann University 3-2 in each team's opening match of the Frostburg Quad on Friday night. The Dutchmen evened their record and now sit at 7-7, while the Knights dropped to 8-9.

In the fifth and deciding set, LVC founds itself in a 5-0 hole and burned a timeout. Coming out of the break, a Reilly Shelly kill from Jensen Burnheimer got the Dutchmen on the board at 5-1. After Neumann made it 6-1, LVC went on a crucial 8-0 run to take a 9-6 advantage. In the Dutchmen's significant spurt, Jess Attieh and Shelly notched a kill each, followed by back-to-back service aces from Kaitlyn Reed and a kill from Burnheimer. Attieh then blocked Maria Brown, and Shelly registered two more kills to make it 9-6.

Each time the Knights tried to tie things up in the fifth, the Dutchmen continued to have an answer. With LVC up 10-9, Burnheimer answered with a kill thanks to Emily Smeltz. Then, with the Dutchmen on to at 11-10, Amanda Sides picked up two consecutive kills, followed by a Neumann attack error. At match point, Sides put the Knights away with a kill to give LVC the 15-10 fifth-set victory and a 3-2 win.

In the opening set of this evening's action, each team was trading off points. With Neumann ahead 10-9, however, a 4-0 run by the Dutchmen put LVC ahead 13-10.
