How It Happened
Alida Steenkamer set the single-season record for defensive saves during a game in which Lebanon Valley fended off a late charge from Immaculata and held on for a 3-2 victory over the visiting Mighty Macs on a rainy night at Arnold Field on Thursday night, Sept. 27.

The Flying Dutchmen (5-4) looked poised to put the game away early after netting a pair of goals in the opening three minutes. Taylor Pentz broke free near midfield and raced toward the IU goal before finding Cecile Kat for the game's first goal just 1:57 into the contest. Then it was Pentz getting into the scoring act just 41 seconds later when she fought through a scrum and forced home her first goal of the season to double the advantage in the second minute.

Despite a number of good looks and a stranglehold on possession, LVC was unable to add to its lead before halftime and in the early minutes following the break. It was Immaculata (1-11) that ended a nearly 56-minute scoreless drought when Hilary Burkholder put the visitors on the board off a Willa Thompson assist with 11:33 left to play.

The Dutchmen appeared to create some breathing room a few minutes later when Pentz made a pretty pass from the right side of the circle that Kat gathered and finished off with blast into the back of the cage in the 64th minute.

The Mighty Macs wouldn't go quietly, however, as Thompson cut the deficit in half when she made a nifty spin move and went high by lofting an attempt over the LVC defense and across the goal line with 3:06 remaining. IU got one good look at a potential equalizer in the closing seconds but goalkeeper Tori ByDeLey turned away Colleen Bradley's shot to preserve the victory.
