How It Happened
PALMYRA, Pa. – Three different players scored in Lebanon Valley in its 3-1 victory over Penn St. Harrisburg on Tuesday night at In the Net Sports Complex. The game was played at In the Net due to rainy weather. The Dutchmen, who played as the visitors, improved to 4-2-1, while the Lions dropped to 5-4-1.
In the early going, LVC kept the pressure on Harrisburg and finally broke through in the 26th minute when Bridget Finn sent a pass from midfield over the defense and onto the feet of
Lucy McGloshen. McGloshen slipped through the defense and outran the Lions' line and scored her third goal of the season to give LVC a 1-0 lead.
Serena Donmoyer and the Dutchmen defense held Harrisburg scoreless for the remainder of the half and took a narrow 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the 62nd minute, the Dutchmen got a little help from an official, as a Harrisburg pass to the middle bounced off the referee and went right to
Cheyenne Scott. Scott then sent a pass to the right side to
Katie Goldsmith and she raced down the right side of the field and beat the Lions' goalkeeper to put LVC up by a pair at 2-0. Just two minutes later, in the 64th minute, Harrisburg got one back when Kaeleigh Smedley's corner kick found the feet of Hollie Holthaus and was able to slip a ball past Donmoyer to bring the Lions to within one at 2-1.
Lea Dungan, the reigning MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week, along with Finn,
Caity Howett, and
Brianna Mumma, held Harrisburg off the scoreboard and in the 81st minute, LVC put the game out of reach when McGloshen ran down the left side of the field and crossed a ball to
Rileigh Jo Evitts. With one touch, Evitts kicked a ball past Arnold, giving the Dutchmen a 3-1 lead, which they hung out to for the remainder of the match.
