How It Happened
Two first half goals by Gettysburg proved to be enough as the Bullets narrowly defeated Lebanon Valley 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action. The Dutchmen fell to 3-3, while the Bullets moved to 3-2-1.
Each team shared several good scoring chances in the early going. Just 1:16 into the match,
Kurtis Rineer saw a solid chance with a shot from the middle just outside the box, but Thomas Keane was there for the save. In the ninth minute, Gettysburg generated a corner kick which resulted in a head shot by Ezekiel Omosanya, but it went wide left.
Later, in the 19th minute, the Bullets' Oladayo Thomas broke through and netted the game's first goal when Jack Carroll created a give-and-go in the middle and Thomas was able to find the back of the net. Then, in the 33rd minute, Thomas scored his second of the day off a pass from Precious Ozoh after his cross into the box allowed Thomas to score via a header. LVC went into halftime down by a pair of goals, but the match certainly wasn't over.
In the 54th minute, the Dutchmen came to within one when
Jake Kline served a pass into the middle of a scrum, and
Rob Hanosek corralled the ball and beat Keane to make it a 2-1 score. Throughout the final 35 minutes of action, LVC saw some chances for the equalizer, but couldn't come up with the tying goal and fell 2-1.
