How It Happened
Lebanon Valley netted a pair of first half goals and never looked back en route to a 2-0 shutout victory over St. Lawrence on the opening day of the 2018 William Smith Classic on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 15.

As she has been a number of times so far this season, Cecile Kat was the catalyst for the offense. The sophomore opened game's scoring with a goal in the 10th minute, blasting home an attempt after Jenna Lysakowski connected with her on a penalty corner opportunity.

The Flying Dutchmen (2-3) doubled their advantage later in the half when Mikayla Poole finished off a feed from Kat in the 22nd minute by swatting the ball into the back of the cage.

LVC withstood an early barrage of offense by the Saints (1-4), with goalkeeper Tori ByDeLey turning away a number of St. Lawrence shots in the opening seven minutes.

SLU had a couple of decent chances in the second half but ByDeLey proved up to the task, turning away three shots with 15 minutes left to play. The Dutchmen defense anchored down in the closing minutes as well, repelling three penalty corners in the final six minutes to preserve the shutout.

Inside the Numbers
- LVC's victory was the team's first shutout of the young season.
- The Dutchmen were actually outshot 13-7 overall and 6-5 in shots on goal.
- The Saints racked up 15 penalty corners, compared to just five opportunities for Lebanon Valley.
- With her goal and assist, Cecile Kat increased her team-leading points total to 15 on the year.
- Kat and Jenna Lysakowski now lead the squad with three assists apiece.
- Tori ByDeLey made six saves in goal in earning the victory.
- St. Lawrence goalkeepers, Lexi Oskam and Sydney Giacin combined to make three stops.
