How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. –
Ivan Jorel broke a 0-0 tie in the 79th minute to guide Lebanon Valley's men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Susquehanna on Wednesday night at Hershey High School. The game was originally scheduled to take place at Herbert Field in Annville yesterday, however poor field conditions due to rain forced the venue and date change. The Dutchmen won their third straight and moved to 3-1, while the River Hawks dropped to 0-4-1.
After neither team could score for the majority of the match, LVC was threatening just before the 80th minute of action. Just inside the box, Jorel was able to control the ball and ripped a shot past the outstretched arms of Susquehanna's Matt Ellingworth and into the back of the net to break the 0-0 tie.
The Dutchmen controlled the action for the majority of the first half, but had nothing to show for it. In the 17th minute,
Braydon Shuck had a decent look, but Ellingworth was there to make the stop. LVC generated five corner kicks in the opening half, but after 45 minutes of action, the game was scoreless.
In the second half, six minutes before Jorel's game-winner, the River Hawks were awarded a corner kick, but Kai Davies' header went just high and the game remained tied.
