How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team picked up its first conference win of the season after shutting out Alvernia 3-0 on Tuesday evening. The Dutchmen improved to 4-5, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth, while the Golden Wolves slipped to 1-5, 0-2 MAC Commonwealth.

LVC opened up the first set by scoring the first six points, including a kill by Jayna Class and Jess Attieh, to take an early advantage. Later, with the Dutchmen ahead 10-3, the Golden Wolves rattled off four straight to come to within three at 10-7, but LVC eventually staved off Alvernia and Class (one) and Attieh (two) put away the Golden Wolves in the first with three consecutive kills and the Dutchmen took the first set 25-16.

In the early going of the middle set, LVC found itself down 7-5, but responded with four straight tallies, including two kills from Reily Shelly, a service ace from Erin Koons, and another kill from Attieh, to overtake Alvernia at 9-7. The Dutchmen never relinquished the lead from there and went on to take the set with ease at 25-14.

In the beginning stages of the third set, the Golden Wolves refused to go away quietly and held a 10-6 advantage. Then, with Alvernia up 13-11, Koons served up another ace, and then an Alvernia attack error, followed by Mikiah Sangrey's kill, put LVC back on top at 14-13. With the third set tied at 15-15, three consecutive points by the Dutchmen proved to be the difference. LVC was able to hold off the Golden Wolves for the remainder of the set and went on to win 25-19 for the 3-0 match win.
