How It Happened
LANCASTER, Pa. – In Lebanon Valley men's soccer's 2018 opener, the Flying Dutchmen suffered a hard-fought 3-2 loss at the hands of Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but flooding in the Lancaster area pushed the game to this afternoon.

It didn't take long for the scoring to begin, as Max Geuder netted a goal via his head that just barely went underneath the crossbar to give the Diplomats an early 1-0 advantage. That, lead however, was washed away just 24 seconds later when Rob Hanosek scored LVC's first goal of 2018, off an assist from Nathan Moshgat, to even the game at 1-1.

F&M, however, struck back fairly quickly when Alex Lalovic received a pass from Ugo Okolie from the middle and scored four minutes later at 8:41 to give the Diplomats their lead back at 2-1. Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the half, and the Dutchmen were within striking distance heading into the second half.

F&M padded their lead to 3-1 in the 59th minute when Jim Connolly used his left foot to score from Okolie and Geuder. Later, in the 67th minute, Ivan Jorel received a pass from Peter Foerster in the middle and shot it into the bottom right-hand corner past the Diplomats' keeper to bring LVC back to within one at 3-2. Unfortunately, the Dutchmen weren't able to even the score down the stretch and were just edged out.
