How It Happened
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Down by as many as six runs, Lebanon Valley came back to defeat Stevenson 16-11 in 11 innings in a thrilling MAC Commonwealth baseball contest on Friday afternoon. The Dutchmen earned a huge conference win and improved to 6-10, 2-4 MAC Commonwealth, while the Mustangs dropped to 12-12, 4-6 MAC Commonwealth.

Down 11-8 heading into the top of the ninth, Nick O'Shea made it 11-9 with one swing of the bat thanks to a one-out home run to center field. Next, Josh Herring and Jon Harned each single to left field, and later with two outs, the pair stole second and third, putting runners in scoring position with two outs. Bryan Towers then delivered a single through the left side to score Herring and make it 11-10, and then with Marty Kiessling at bat, Stevenson's Kenny Wugaiter's pitch went errant, allowing Harned to score and tie the game at 11-11. In the bottom of the frame, Kiessling came in to pitch and retired the Mustangs 1-2-3, sending the game into extras.

After neither team was able to score in the 10th, the game went into the 11th inning and Herring began the inning by reaching on an error. Harned then reached out on a fielding error by the catcher on a bunt, allowing Herring to advance all the way to third. During Trevor Bertsch's at-bat, the Mustangs attempted to throw out a stealing Harned, but Stevenson registered another error on the throw to second, which allowed Herring to score, giving LVC a 12-11 lead. After Bertsch walked and Towers was hit by a pitch, the bases were loaded for Kiessling and he took full advantage of the situation and launched a grand slam to right field to increase the Dutchmen's lead to 16-11. He then pitched the bottom of the 11th and shut down Stevenson to give LVC a wild 16-11 win.

The Dutchmen began the game with a pair of home runs in the first, a Bertsch home run to left center, followed by Josh Marcelli's bomb to center field. From there, the Mustangs scored two in the second, four in the third, and two more in the fifth to take an 8-2 lead. Harned made it a three-run game in the top of the sixth thanks to a double that plated Herring, O'Shea and Marcelli, but Billy Small hit a two-run home run to right field in the sixth to put Stevenson ahead 10-5.
