How It Happened
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – After a thrilling walk-off win over Messiah yesterday in game two of a doubleheader, Lebanon Valley was on the opposite side of things this afternoon as Penn State Harrisburg hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to edge the Dutchmen 9-8 in non-conference baseball action. LVC now sits at 10-20, while the Lions improved to 26-8.
Early on, the Dutchmen were the first to score when
Colin Albright homered in his second-straight at-bat dating back to yesterday to give the Dutchmen an early 2-0 lead. Later in the inning,
Michael Leri launched a solo bomb for his first long ball of the season that increased LVC's advantage to 3-0 and then
Josh Herring's sacrifice fly scored
Bryan Towers to make it 4-0.
After Harrisburg got one back in the bottom of the third, Albright sent another ball over the fence for his third-consecutive at-bat with a home run, increasing LVC's lead to 5-1. From there, the Lions scored one in the fourth and five in the fifth to go up 7-5 over the Dutchmen until the top of the seventh when
Trevor Bertsch's RBI-groundout brought LVC to within one at 7-6. In the bottom of the eighth, Harrisburg's Cline homered to make it a two-run game at 8-6. The Dutchmen didn't go away quietly, however, and in the top of the ninth,
Josh Marcelli tripled home Towers, followed by
TJ Holdredge's RBI-double that tied the game at 8-8. In the bottom of the ninth, though, Brubaker singled home McSorley to allow Harrisburg to get the win.
