OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lebanon Valley's men's tennis team was edged by Stevenson 5-4 in MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday afternoon, April 21.
The Mustangs (12-5, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) took the early lead by winning a pair of matches in doubles play.
Elliott Kleckner and
Ben Hinkley's 8-0 sweep of Richie Abruscato and Peter Appiah was the only doubles victory for the Flying Dutchmen (9-7, 4-2 MAC Commonwealth).
LVC made a push in singles play, with
Luke Senft, Kleckner, and Hinkley earning solo victories. Senft earned a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (7-1) win over Douglas Vaughan in the No. 4 match, Kleckner handled Abruscato 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth outing, and Hinkley took care of Appiah 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 contest. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Stevenson held on to win a pair of three-setters in the top half of the lineup and escape with a narrow victory on its home court.
Despite the setback, the Dutchmen clinched a playoff spot in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament. They will look to end the regular season on a high note when they host Albright at the Shankroff Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, April 28.
