LVC Walks Off in Game Two to Salvage Split

How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped game one of a doubleheader against Messiah by a 12-3 margin on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action. The Dutchmen slipped to 9-19, 5-11 MACC and the Falcons improved to 10-16, 6-9 MACC.

Messiah jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second before adding three more in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, LVC chipped away when Josh Marcelli homered to left field to cut the Falcons' lead in half at 4-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Josh Herring scored on a wild pitch to bring the Dutchmen to within one, but a five-run sixth inning by Messiah put LVC away and the Falcons went on to add three more in the top of the seventh to win by a 12-3 score.

Inside the Numbers (Game One)
 - Jon Harned went 2-for-2 at the plate, while Bryan Towers, Trevor Bertsch and Marcelli each recorded a hit.
 - Kyle Kingsbury was dealt the loss and moved to 3-2 on the season after throwing 3.1 innings and allowing two earned runs.

How It Happened
In game two, Towers delivered a walk-off RBI-single for LVC, allowing the Dutchmen to salvage the split against Messiah. LVC snapped its recent losing streak and now sits at 10-19, 6-12 MACC, while the Falcons dropped to 10-17, 6-10 MACC.

Heading into the top of the seventh with a one-run lead, reliever Marty Kiessling found himself in some trouble after allowing a lead-off single to Dan Wiederrecht. After he stole second base, Kiessling got Austin Mellinger to pop up, and Ryan Hentschel lined out to center field for the second out. However, the next batter Davis reached on a throwing error which allowed Wiederrecht to score and tie the game up at 9-9.

In the bottom of the seventh, Messiah reliever Peiffer got two quick outs, but Deavor Koch followed with a walk, and Harned then ripped the first pitch he saw to right center to move Koch into scoring position. Towers then came to the plate and after an eight-pitch at-bat, including four straight foul balls, the sophomore roped a ball to center field and Koch scored to give LVC the thrilling 10-9 victory.

Inside the Numbers (Game Two)
 - Towers went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Two of his hits were doubles.
 - Colin Albright launched a three-run homerun over the left field wall and finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate.
 - Bertsch, TJ Holdredge, and Harned recorded two hits apiece.
 - Kiessling notched his second win of the season after throwing 2.2 innings with two strikeouts.
 - Dylan Stephen started game two and got the no decision. He went 4.1 innings and allowed five earned runs.

Who's Next?
LVC steps out on MAC-Commonwealth action tomorrow when the Dutchmen travel to take on Penn State Harrisburg at 1 p.m.
