How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley fell to Hood College 13-4 on Friday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth baseball action. The Dutchmen now sit at 9-14, 5-8, while the Blazers improved to 24-5, 8-5.
Hood jumped out to an early lead thanks to a three-run second inning. Jordan Patterson doubled down the left field line, then Cam Esposito hit a two-RBI single up the middle. Starting pitcher
Kyle Kingsbury settled down from there, and in the bottom of the fourth,
TJ Holdredge singled home
Marty Kiessling to cut into the Blazers' advantage at 3-1.
In the top of the sixth, Hood extended its lead after plating four runs, all of which were unearned, to make it a 7-1 advantage. Kiessling hit an RBI-groundout to plate
Trevor Bertsch in the bottom of the seventh to bring LVC to within five at 8-3, but the Blazers scored two runs in the eight and three more in the ninth, and the Dutchmen were unable to make a comeback and fell 13-4.
Inside the Numbers
- Bertsch, Kiessling, and
Josh Herring all recorded two hits apiece and Kiessling scored a pair of runs.
- Kingsbury took the loss and moved to 3-2 on the season. He went 5.2 innings and allowed three earned runs and struck out three.
- Hood's Ryan Atkinson moved to 3-1 on the season after throwing five innings and allowing an earned run.
- The Blazers had 13 hits as a team, while LVC totaled nine.
