How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley amassed 22 hits and held off a late charge by Albright to defeat the Lions 14-9 in a critical MAC Commonwealth matchup on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchmen improved to 9-13, 5-7 MAC Commonwealth, while Albright fell to 10-11, 4-8 MAC Commonwealth.
LVC jumped out to a hot start and scored four runs in the bottom of the first, beginning with
Marty Kiessling two-RBI double to right center that scored
Bryan Towers and
Trevor Bertsch.
Josh Marcelli added an RBI-double to left center in the second to make it a 5-0 contest. The Lions answered with a two-run third inning thanks to Jimmy Gentry's two-run bomb, and then in the top of the fourth, Albright plated another run to come to within two of the Dutchmen at 5-3.
LVC answered in the bottom of the fourth when Towers doubled home Bertsch, followed by Kiessling's RBI-single and
TJ Holdredge's sacrifice fly, which put the Dutchmen back up by five at 8-3. After Towers singled to left to plate Bertsch in the bottom of the fifth,
Nick O'Shea doubled home Marcelli in the sixth before
Josh Herring singled home Holdredge to make it 11-3 LVC. Later, Bertsch doubled down the right field line to score Herring and O'Shea, pushing the lead to 13-3.
Albright attempted a comeback and came to within four thanks to a run in the seventh and five more in the eighth, but in the bottom of the eighth, LVC added an insurance run off Bertsch's sacrifice fly, and the Dutchmen were able to hold on in the top of the ninth to win 14-9.
At the Plate
- LVC totaled a season-high 22 hits.
- Bertsch, Marcelli, and Herring recorded four hits each, while Bertsch had three RBI and scored four runs. Three of Marcelli's hits were doubles.
- As a team, nine of LVC's 22 hits were doubles.
- Towers and Kiessling recorded three hits each and Kiessling added three RBI.
- The Dutchmen put together 14 RBI as a team.
On the Mound

Jake Williams pitched well and earned the win this afternoon. He went seven innings, scattered eight hits, and allowed four earned runs while striking out a pair.
Who's Next?
Another pivotal conference series begins on Friday when the Dutchmen welcome Hood College to McGill Field for a 3 p.m. game before finishing the regular-season series in Frederick, Md. on Saturday.
