How It Happened
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Lebanon Valley's baseball team was edged out by Maritime (N.Y.) 6-5 in the opening game of a doubleheader in the Dutchmen's final day in Florida.
With LVC ahead 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Privateers' Costeligh hit an RBI-single to tie the game at 5-5. Later in the inning, Russo won the game for Maritime with an RBI-single to left field.
The Dutchmen were led at the plate by
Nick O'Shea, who began the scoring in game one in the bottom of the third with a two-run triple to center field. Then in the fourth,
Bryan Towers hit a sacrifice fly to plate
Josh Herring to put LVC up 3-0.
Chris DeClerico then ripped an RBI-single to right field in the bottom of the sixth to score Towers.
The Privateers, however, didn't go away and scored four in the sixth before completing the comeback in the last inning.
At the Plate
- O'Shea was a home run shy of the cycle and went 4-for-4 with two RBI.
- Herring finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.
- Towers and
Jon Harned had two hits apiece.
On the Mound

Jake Williams didn't factor into the decision despite tossing 5.2 innings and allowing four earned runs to go along with six K's.

How It Happened
In the nightcap, Maritime jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and the Dutchmen were unable to get out of the hole, bringing their record to 3-5, while the Privateers improved to 5-2.
Despite being down 6-0 heading into the top of the fifth, LVC attempted a comeback when
Josh Herring's single scored Harned. Then,
Josh Marcelli reached on a fielder's choice that scored Towers, bringing the Dutchmen to within four at 6-2. In the seventh,
Josh Willey doubled to center field to score O'Shea and Marcelli, but that was as close as LVC would get, resulting in the 6-4 defeat.
At the Plate
- Harned notched three more hits on the afternoon to cap off an impressive eight-game showing in the Sunshine State. In his eight games, the senior went 17-for-31 (.548 average) and scored nine runs.
- Towers and Herring each went 2-for-4.
- Willey went 2-for-2 after relieving Albright in the sixth.
On the Mound
The Dutchmen bullpen performed well in game two, as
Trey France,
Logan Stover,
Matt Blocksom, and
Trevor Bertsch allowed just two earned runs in five innings of work combined. Blocksom struck out a pair in 2.2 innings.

Spring break action has concluded and LVC is set for its 2018 home opener on Tuesday against Immaculata at 3:30 p.m.
