How It Happened
FORT PIERCE, Fla. –
Dylan Stephen tossed seven innings for Lebanon Valley and allowed just one earned run in the Dutchmen's 6-2 victory over Muskingum on Tuesday. LVC improved to 3-1, while the Fighting Muskies dropped to 1-3.
It seems that scoring first has become a theme for the Dutchmen in Florida, and today was no different. In the top of the second,
TJ Holdredge doubled to left field to plate
Nick O'Shea to put LVC up 1-0. Later in the frame,
Colin Albright doubled home Holdredge to make it 2-0 Dutchmen. Muskingum got one back in the bottom of the fifth thanks to an RBI-single by E. Harper, but that's all Stephen would allow in one of his best outings of his career.
In the seventh, with LVC still up 2-1, the Dutchmen tacked on some insurance runs, beginning when
Chris DeClerico reached on an error that plated
Bryan Towers. Next,
Josh Marcelli singled home DeClerico and
Trevor Bertsch, and O'Shea then singled through the left side to plate Marcelli, making it a 6-1 score. The Fighting Muskies, out of Ohio, scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth, but LVC was able to hold on and defeat Muskingum 6-2.
On the Mound
- Stephen was impressive on the mound and moved to 1-0 on the young season. He tossed seven innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out six and inducing seven groundball-outs.
-
Ryan Showalter tossed the eighth inning and allowed a run, which wasn't earned.
-
Brenden Ward pitched a scoreless ninth inning and struck out a batter.
At the Plate
- Bertsch, O'Shea, Holdredge, and Albright each recorded two hits.
- Marcelli picked up a pair of RBI in the win.
- Harper led Muskingum's offense with a pair of hits.
