How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley couldn't quite complete its comeback and fell to Arcadia 8-5 on Sunday at McGill Field. The Dutchmen, who played the game at home, were the visitors because the game was originally scheduled to be at Arcadia. The Dutchmen dropped to 3-8, 0-3 MAC Commonwealth, while the Knights improved to 10-2, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth.
After Arcadia jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first five innings, LVC began to cut into the Knights' lead in the top of the sixth when
Josh Herring's RBI-groundout scored
Bryan Towers. Later in the frame,
Josh Marcelli singled to right-center to score
Chris DeClerico and make it a 5-2 game. Arcadia got one back in the bottom of the sixth with one swing of the bat when Sean Carew homered to left center, however
Jon Harned's pinch-hit, RBI-single in the top of the eighth made LVC's deficit three at 6-3. Later in the eighth,
Colin Albright singled to left field to score Harned and Marcelli, bringing LVC to within one at 6-5.
Unfortunately, the Knights scored twice in the bottom of the eighth and they were able to hold off LVC in the top of the ninth.
At the Plate
- Albright had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
- DeClerico, Marcelli, and Harned had two hits apiece for the Dutchmen.
- For Arcadia, Carew went 3-for-5, while Bryan Gillen, Nick Cardace, Trevor Mattson, and Nick Ponente registered two hits each.
On the Mound
-
Dylan Stephen was charged with the loss after throwing five innings and scattering nine hits. He allowed just one earned run and struck out two.
- Arcadia's Andrew Scholz picked up his second win of the season and threw seven innings and allowed four runs and struck out four.
