How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley was narrowly edged by Chatham 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in UCHC women's hockey action. The Dutchmen fell to 2-18-2, 1-13-1 UCHC and the Cougars improved to 6-14-2, 3-12-0 UCHC.
With Chatham ahead 2-0 late in the third period, LVC drew a penalty and sent the Cougars to the box to set up a power-play opportunity. Then, with 3:15 remaining in period,
Morgan Martin blasted a shot from the point and scored off assists from
Emma Stillwaggon and
Chloe Glass, making it a 2-1 contest. In the final minutes, the Dutchmen tried to get the puck out of their own zone so that
Jill Moffatt could come off for an extra skater, but Chatham's forecheck kept the puck in LVC's zone and the clock ran out on the Dutchmen, allowing the Cougars to escape with a 2-1 victory.
After neither team was able to score in the opening period and for much of the second, Chatham broke the 0-0 tie with 2:09 left in the second when Sydney Collins poked the puck past Moffatt after the initial shot was saved. The Cougars then made it 2-0 early on in the third when Kristina Block netted an unassisted goal.
