How It Happened
UTICA, N.Y. – Utica College got out to a fast 3-0 start and Lebanon Valley was unable to catch up, resulting in a 7-0 loss to the Pioneers on Sunday afternoon in UCHC women's ice hockey action. The Dutchmen dropped to 2-17-2, 1-12-1 UCHC, while Utica jumped to 12-9-2, 7-5-2 UCHC.
The Pioneers' first two scores came 12 seconds apart, as Jennifer Arts scored at 5:11 and Carlie Smith added another goal at 5:23 of the first. Then, with two minutes to go in the opening period, Smith tallied her second goal of the game to give Utica a 3-0 lead after one period of action.
LVC played a solid second period and didn't allow any goals.
Jill Moffatt made 21 stops in the period, but the Dutchmen's offense struggled to create scoring chances thanks to a tough Utica defense. Unfortunately, in the third period, the Pioneers tacked on four goals by four different players to sink the Dutchmen and come away with the 7-0 win.
