How It Happened
GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley was outscored 52-38 in the second half en route to an 83-58 defeat at the hands of Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday evening in non-conference men's basketball action. The Dutchmen dropped to 4-8, while the Griffins improved to 8-4.
With 3:54 remaining in the first half, LVC and Gwynedd Mercy were knotted at 26-26. The home team, however, went on a 5-0 run to take a 31-26 advantage with three minutes to go in the opening half. In the final minutes,
Jeremy Deihm netted a layup, followed by
Justin Baker's jumper to cut the Griffins' lead to just one at 31-30 heading into the halftime break.
The home squad began second-half action by scoring four consecutive points to go ahead 35-30, but LVC followed it up by scoring six straight, capped by
Chris Anderson's jumper in the paint, to go up 36-35 with 15:38 remaining. Throughout the next five minutes of action, however, Gwynedd Mercy posted a critical 21-5 spurt that the Dutchmen couldn't come out of. With 9:25 left in the game, Deihm's two-point bucket brought LVC within 10 at 58-48, but the visitors couldn't get any closer and the Griffins went on to extend their lead and eventually win the game by an 83-68 margin.
Early on, the Dutchmen held a 9-8 advantage and it was extended by three to 11-8 after
Trevor Covey's jumper at 14:23. Then, with LVC ahead 15-14 with 10:28 to go,
Derreck Orr Jr. dropped a 3-pointer to give the visitors an 18-14 lead off an assist from
Mason Green. The Dutchmen continued to lead in the opening half and were up 26-22 after Baker's jumper, but the Griffins netted four consecutive points to even the game at 26-26.

Zach Tucker finished with a team-high 16 points, including four makes from beyond the arc.
- Deihm scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and the freshman added six rebounds.
- Baker chipped in nine points and brought down six boards.
- Green ended 11 points off the bench.
- Gwynedd Mercy was led by Rich Dunham and Courtney Cubbage, who netted 19 points apiece.
- The Griffins' Clayton Wolfe scored 13 points, while Somah Slewion added nine.
- The home team shot 55.4-percent from the floor as a team, while the Dutchmen shot 41.7-percent.
- Gwynedd Mercy narrowly led in bench points at 22-19.
- The Griffins also held the edge in points off turnovers (29-15) and points in the paint (36-24).
Who's Next?
LVC will enjoy the rest of the calendar year off and is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 2 when the Dutchmen head to Carlisle to take on Dickinson at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
